To be eligible for a Private Guard License under the Private Guards Regulations, individuals must meet specific criteria and undergo a structured application process as outlined in the Subsidiary Legislation 389.01, “Private Guards Regulations“.  The goal is to maintain high standards of professionalism, safety, and effectiveness within the private guard sector, thereby safeguarding the welfare of the public and the integrity of the properties they protect.

Purpose

  • Possession of a Valid Private Officer License: Individuals are required to possess a valid license issued by the Commissioner of Police to legally operate as private guards.

Application & Eligibility

  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least eighteen years old to qualify for licensure as a private guard.

  • Application Submission: Prospective private guards must apply through the Police Licenses Office, providing necessary documents such as identification, training certificates, and references from previous employers if applicable. The application process includes a fee, and upon approval, the issuance of a license valid for one year.

  • Fees: The application fee for a Private Guard License is twenty-three euros and twenty-nine cents (€23.29). The annual renewal fee is eleven euros and sixty-five cents (€11.65). Licensees must prove attendance in a 10-hour refresher course yearly for renewal.
